From a Written Story to an Interactive Narrative

Postby Mapestone » Sun Nov 13, 2011 3:06 am

I just uploaded TheUnbiddenGuest, based on P. G. Wodehouse's "Jeeves and the Unbidden Guest". A set of five linked KB's demonstrating several methods for porting a story to an interactive narrative.

This has now been approved. Let me know if there is a problem with the download since our system is new now.

It appears for me, you don't see a big green "Download" button towards the bottom right of the download page?

A Green Button? What Green Button? Ok... how many beers does it take before I see the GREEN BUTTON?
Seriously, I see green buttons on all the other downloads except this one.

It's gonna hurt, but I'll check it out with IE. Ouch! hurts already.
- Nope, not in IE neither. Maybe I should try Chrome - wait - no, I'm not a geek.
Maybe it's a server side issue? Or is my computer munged again?

That's very strange that you don't see it, I'm using firefox and it shows up fine (but other browsers should work fine too). Note that if you are not logged into the forum you can't download the files.

You're too kind, Sylvain. Thank you.
The game (at least my version) is to have the story talk to the user.
This beta is a test of concept. Not yet there, but shows promise.
It needs the help of someone with artistic talent. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Ok, maybe it's because you've uploaded this file, your user can't download it? Was your new user grimwald able to download the file?

I looked in the database and noticed that your download is not marked as "Free" so maybe that's why it's causing this? I'll see if that fixes it and see if I can somehow default new files for this.

thanks for your patience.

It Works!
Should I have clicked/unclicked something?
Thanks Matt

No, it was my fault, and I'm just getting used to administering this new download plugin. I'll try to figure out how to default the files to "free" but that was the issue.

thanks, sorry for the trouble,

And now back to the topic.
Goal: The story talks to the user.
Rules: - Stick with the storyline.
- Use sentences from the story.
Challenge: Based on user input, selecting an appropriate point in the story. There may be more than one.
Perfect Score: 100% story response || 100% reasonable for 100% of user input. Assuming the user plays fair.
Present State: 90 || 30 (approx.)
