How to disable Speech in Verbot?

Postby Virron Ex » Thu Sep 29, 2011 1:28 am

Is there a way to run the verbot player without using voice? There isn't any option to disable speech in the settings menu. I tried to uninstall the tts service with no luck, disabled it directly via the systems region settings but the voice in verbot player still won't go away. If there would be a volume button I'd be glad!

Any suggestion?

best regards

The only approximation I can think of is to use the <printonly ...> command and to enclose all your output text in that.

Thanks for your response JonC. But I do not understand, where to put this command and does it mean, I'd have to put this command in EVEREY single output?

best regards

In your output.
Another example

Output: <printtext
Blabla, bklab bla..
>
Here you can see your output text but not hear it.

Thanks Sylvain, it is <printtext...> not <printonly...> (Got confused with Linkonly!)

does it mean, I'd have to put this command in EVEREY single output?

YES - that is exactly what it means!
Every single output would have to be enclosed by the <printtext ...> command as per Sylvain's example.
That's why I didn't say it was a solution! (Or at least it's not a good one.)

Well, thanks JonC and leseur sylvain.

Considering the size of the knowledgebase I'm working at, this "solution" is way too much work. I guess I'll simply have to get used to test my knowledgebase using the "Test KnowledgeBase"-option or may be I'll purchase a more natural, less annoying tts voice. The microsoft default voices making my ears bleed. :?

That's a pretty good idea actually - at least when the bot "blows up" you know exactly where your kb's gone wrong!
As an alternative to purchasing a new TTS voice - why not turn your sound off?

It would be nice to have an option to turn off the face and/or the voice, seems like if we could disable the face and voice from the skin editor that would be one way, or we could add another style to the view menu, essentially "faceless" so all you would get is the input and output boxes and no face or voice.

Yes Matt! This would be great! :)
As for the agents face (no offence to it) I made a copy of the images folder of julia, took a picture of a nice lady from the internet (nothing salacious though ), opened it using gimp, adjusted it to a preferable size and started to replace all the julia_.pngs in the copied folder with it. Then in the skin editor I chose julia_standard.vsk and now, whenever I open up the verbot player, I am looking at a neutral looking but beautiful woman. :)

As for the voice, since I use conditions and such, the "harmful code"-message keeps showing up everytime I reload a kb in the verbot player (even though I checked "remember my choice").
A good side effect of this is, that it seems to disable the agents voice unti I restart the verbot player.

This will happen if you make any change to the kb between re-loads. As far as the Verbot is concerned this is something "new" and possibly harmful - so it asks again.
Of course if you close and re-open player the same thing happens.

Yes, it is a bit of a bugbear but that's the way it is!.
If you want to shut the agent up, there is the option to Stop Agent in the File menu - but that just stops the the current TTS output, it doesn't gag the 'bot permanently so to speak!
