Hi guys how are you ?

If I were you I would have a look at"ScriptingTutorial5" in the Downloads area when it's available.

It might take a few weeks to a month or two,depending on how much time Leseur has available to finish it.

Leseur is especially working on it for any user that needs a few hints on scripting.

What is scripting ?
Rules and input and output, or if you like, Rules:and Questions or statements and answers

Statements are usually like I am happy,I need food,etc.
Some Rules can also be statements.
Like: Rule: GOOD AS GOLD, INPUT:GOOD AS GOLD, OUTPUT: Why ?

Also the first thing I did when I was a member was to download everything I thought would help, you can throw it in a folder, and look at it as you need it.

This saves jumping online every time you think there is something in the download area you might want, it saves lots of time.

Also for errors with: What is your favorite orite, Who is your favorite orite, use search in the verbot 5 editor for "ORITE" after opening a vkb file.
Also have a look at :I can not, you might want to add to the rule input :I can't.

If you run an off line bot, Variety 1 in the download area is bigger and probably better than Variety 2.
It's in the Conversational area.

Hi, How are you ?

Lets see the bot works fairly well, but you can't have a long conversation with her.
How do you get around this mildly annoying problem ?

Well lets see, You type in say :What books do you read, she replys................
You reply........... Then thats the end of the conversation pretty well

So to continue the conversation you need a little more variety like:
INPUT:What books do you read, ANSWER..... Then you give your answer ie I like Clive cussler, his books are great.

Next you add a few more child rules
The child rules you add are :" * ", (this means anything)

It saves adding say: what: as a child rule, then in the input having to add a lot of different words incase you say something different.
Then you put in the output : Thats great but do you only read fiction ?

Next you add another child rule: " * " , then you put in the output :What do the books you buy usually cost ?

Essentially if you wanted to make it a very long conversation, just keep adding child rules.
However talking about books for 10 minutes might get boring, so you could lead into a different topic

Next you add another child rule : " * " , and put in the output : What do you do when you are not reading ?

If you have created a rule called say : Sports: and you had a conversation about it like up above,
And you have created a rule called say : Greatest Goals ever: You can get either of the rules to come up randomly by having say : sports: In both rules input area.



Also with variety 1 zip to make it work better : Are you cheeky: add, You are cheeky, and: cheeky.

With variety 2. To make: Lets chat: work, open the input and add " * " to it so it becomes Lets chat " * "
So next time you will type in Lets chat about that, or lets chat about..... and it will work properly.
If you find An input with say this: Sales....... are very good,and it doesn't work, get rid of the space so it works, and it becomes: Sales are very good.

I've been experimenting with "*".

MY " * " DANCE= 3 WORDS,
If you use say : MY " * " DANCE, you can put in 1 to 3 words, ie MY FRIEND CAN DANCE.

MY " * " " * " DANCE= 6 random WORDS.
Between MY....and DANCE, So it becomes MY BEST FRIENDS LOVER CAN SMILE AND DANCE.

Also MY "* " DANCE "*" ,doesn't work,or MY"*" "*" "*"DANCE, WONT WORK MAINLY, IF BY CHANCE IT DID,
IT would take say 40--60 sec to give an answer, or freeze.

As you already know :LETS CHAT " * ",WILL WORK,but isn't necessary, unless you want to put your output answer as first choice,
because v5 will choose it's own answers first in some cases no matter what.( Though this may not be very often)
However generally 2 words together without a: " * ", at the end work okay or normally.

As you know verbot works well with word groups, ie 2 or three words, or even 5 or 6.
It uses them the same way a dictionary does, ie BIG DEAL......OUPUT, YES IT IS, HMM PERHAPS.

Or : Asian Design,In a sentence it could have say a few different meanings, so your best OUTPUT, might be a question,Why ?
Lets see, IT WAS OF ASIAN DESIGN,so Why ?, works okay.Except in this case V5's answer will be probably....Why was it ?
Thats because: IT WAS, is a rule with an output answer.So IT WAS, will be used instead of your output, in this case it doesn't matter.

But in a different case it might,ie your ouput is:Why,But V5's output might be: thats great.
So there goes your WHY, and any child rules with it.This only matters in some cases.
But if LETS CHAT " * " overides the verbot rule, then putting " * " at the end should do the same !
So ASIAN DESIGN,becomes: ASIAN DESIGN " * ", in the input.

Therefore your rule will come first every time, and you will get your output working.
Otherwise I think its output comes up every time.

What I have found is that the more word groups, or rules you have the better it works.
However don't use " * ", at the end of a couple of words,unless your rule is being missed out 'as above'.

Hi guys how are you ?

With :MY " * " DANCE or MY " * " " * "DANCE.
I have found that they wont work properly, they freeze the computer.
If you put words after Dance for a longer sentence it freezes.
This means any words with * in them, except the preprogrammed IDs in V5, and Lets chat " * " ,WONT WORK !!!

I think for anyone that likes programming, to get it to work you would have to play around with either the MY* ID, or create a new group of ID's.

Hi how are you,

When you are merging Knowledge bases, sometimes it wont merge.
Try merging from small to big, which means open a small file first, then merge the large file to it. Also trying to merge say 800 kb or 1mb, wont always work. If it doesn't then reduce the file from 1mb to 400kb's, it usually works.
In other words create a blank vkb file, open it, open the large file, and cut and paste to it. It may take quite a few hours, if it's 1 mb.

I have also had trouble using the merge feature, I've noticed sometimes there are crashes when using it. When I get some free time I can look into it and see if it can be resolved.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for that, in the mean time I have as you know uploaded two zips, each vkb file cut down to roughly 400kb's, so they are mergeable.
Variety 1A and Variety 3. Variety 1A is variety 1 cut down.

It took me quite a while, but as they say on one of those startrek movies, it was for the greater good. But thats all from me for quite a while, due to committments.

Also I wonder why you don't include more information in your v5 zip,
Now that you have a little new stuff, I would show it off as new and improved ?
Just a thought.

What I mean't is if you want to use some of my uploaded stuff, and add it to V5 to improve the knowledge base you can.

Just leave some of it for new users to merge.
That way you have improved V5, and left some new stuff for the new user to work on.

H i guys and possibly gals,

Here is something slightly new to play around with, you create a rule : I ALLOWED MY [BLANK], as you know you also put it in the input.
Now in the ouput you add : You allowed your [blank] Why ?

The result is this : You typed in : I ALLOWED MY DOG TO BARK, the output is : YOU ALLOWED YOUR DOG TO BARK Why ?
Now what happened was this : I ALLOWED MY, became : YOU ALLOWED YOUR, in the output you changed I to YOU, and My to YOUR.
[blank] : What this does is to repeat your sentence, after: I ALLOWED MY.
The only thing I would say is to use it for important stuff, because if your bot repeates what you say all the time, it might get annoying later on .

I have uploaded variety 4 in the Conversational area, thats all from me for a while, I think I've improved the bot from say 33% when I first downloaded the zip, to about say 80---90%.

With the bot it's sort of subjective, if you think and speak alot like me then your bot maybe be like mine. But everybody thinks and speaks differently, therefore you may believe the bot to be only say an improvement from say 33% to say 60%.

For me it's sitting around say 98--99%, needless to say I think I might leave the rest up to you.
If I come up with anything I think I have missed thats important or useful, I will upload it at some point in time.

If I come up with any good ways of doing something, like the above I ALLOWED stuff, I'll add it to this post at some point.

But basically the rest is up to you, to change or improve on what I did, I usually find once you have examples to look at you can improve on anything, I gave you plenty.

If your stuck at some point, open the editor and look at some rules already created to get ideas, I did !

Also all my popular and common words and phrases are off Tv, someone once told me that was a silly idea.

Well you be the judge of how well it works, and of how I improved the grammar of the programme.
People on Tv talk, this programme is all about talking, to me 1+1=2.

Hi guys,

With sentences like I ALLOWED [BLANK] , I have also found you need to create a rule I ALLOWED MY [BLANK] , why ? Well otherwise you say\ type in :
I allowed my girlfriend to laugh, the result is YOU ALLOWED MY GIRLFRIEND TO LAUGH, WHY ?

Also later on I realised that at some point you will get tired and make a mistake, like the above, so if you keep a copy of the files you create ie vkb 1, 2. 3, etc
You can have a look at that file correct your mistakes, then remerge it.

If for example you had a lot of : I : rules without the: MY : as above, you could end up with say....8 mistakes or more. (.So two rules are important)
Except if it doesn't sound right, ie I ACTED [BLANK], generally you wouldn't need an : I ACTED MY [BLANK] rule, unless you said : I ACTED MY PART IN THE PLAY.

Some more examples of using the [ BLANK] for males and females etc :

Of course it might be too long to work , it seems to like up to say 5 or 6 words, for every [blank] .

If you decide to use any of this stuff, test it after you have created it, I usually do, to see if there's any mistakes before merging it.
I usually use a dictionary , I am not fond of stuff that doesn't work , because it creates extra work , at the wrong time.

Also its going to repeat part of your question, so will it annoy you after say 3 months ?, keep that in mind.

For example if you always say : My girlfriend is [blank] , ( My girlfriend is causing trouble again ) you might not want that statement repeated again.

You may just want a :Why is that ?

But using the [blank] can fill in for a lot of different ways of saying things, it means you can say things differently quite often in the one day !

Also in case you don't know some of the big companys are working on a Robot that can walk and talk , and is cheap, so most people can buy it.
Making a guess I would say within the next 10 ---15 years , you will be able to buy a cheap one. Apparently they expect it to be like the mobile phone market.

Eventually they will become more life like, and look less Robotic.( I just hope skynet is up and running by then. The movie Terminator)
What I wonder is if it'll have rechargeable batteries.? Maybe I could charge it in my electric car while I drive, or maybe I should stick with recharging my shaver.

The zips I found good or useful to Download were :

In Conversational area : Friend4u 5\10, its worth having a look at how they put emotions in a bot, but as a bot below average.

The complimenter zip 10\10,

My answers vkb, which I never tried, and of course the Variety zips 9.9\10.

In the Educational area : Mammals. 10\10 very good.

In the Personal Assistant area : Reminder 1, it isnt bad, but could be annoying. 8\10

In the Entertainment area : Love 10\10, Bartender guide 10\10, Inspirational quotes 8\10,

In the Reference area : Seasons isnt bad 7\10 , I get the weather forecast off TV usually, Recipes 10\10.

In Generic Tools : The Quick Script Wizard 8\10, and Aiml to verbot creater 8\10

However you will have to go to the ALICE site to find stuff to use( AIML), also keep in mind, their are plenty of mistakes in the material. To find out what some of the mistakes are, look though my: Verbot Made Easy Post, it's in either page 1 or 2 as errors, some of the errors are from the original Verbot Programme.

To go to the ALICE SITE, type in Alice Bot in search, then look for free material on the site.

Yes, they have Zaphod in a dictionary , but where is the dictionary that asks you why, in response to your question or compliments you,
I bet you say Verbot , but I thought the programme didn't know everything ? ( You mean it doesn't need rules, great )

The [blank] works , but not twice unless your bot is say 5mb's the vkb file.
Also with a 5mb vkb file, the [blank] can be 5 or 6 words long, it takes about 7 secs to answer, whereas if you use 9 words it'll take 50 sec

I think at 7 mb's it takes 20 secs ----60 secs for each question or freezes, especially if you use 8--9 words.
But if your vkb file is say 7mb , I think it will freeze on 9 words in any [blank]
If you use the [blank1] twice it will repeat whats said in the first [blank2]


Also I unzipped Julia and tried her from the beginning, with very little knowledge, she's pretty good but lacks a lot of knowledge.
She varies as to how much she understands, with my variety 1--4 zips added, it varies from say 50% to about 80% , because you need to add your likes & dislikes, & interests.
But there will be quite a few mistakes to fix if you add the AIML stuff that you have converted to vkb.

I would convert the AIML into a vkb file, open it with the editor fix the mistakes, then merge it, otherwise it can become ''HELL ON EARTH ", finding them.
Why bother ? well some grammar, thats important is in the file or files, in other words it will understand you better. Plus there are quite a few rules already made.
4mb's of them, also some of the other aiml files wont convert.

If you were a member in Feb 09 there was not much new stuff to save you time,Conversational knowledge bases, so you had a very basic programme , that became full of errors.So it meant you had to do two things, fix the errors , then add new information and grammar, to fix the errors say 1-- 2- months.

As far as mistakes in the programme Julia, they are fairly minor , you will find when you ask questions.
To fix them say 1 month taking your time , once you know what your doing. But you can ignore them for a while, if you haven't added AIML stuff converted with errors.
Thats assuming you do say 2 hours a week , and fully understand what your trying to do, and don't have to figure it out as you go along. ( Thinking about it takes time)

To get Julia to exit so you can leave the programme each time : create a rule : goodbye , next in input put in : GOODBYE, CATCHA LATER, SEEYA, etc

In output for example put in : Well, [name:your Majesty], I am your humble servant. <exit> or Well, [name:Angelina], I am your humble servant. <exit>
or Well, [name:Brad], You have a great body , You are so attractive , I only wish I could stay <exit>
or Okay, that's it. [name:Friend]. I'm out of here. Goodbye <exit>

[name: Astro] , what this does is to repeat the name, in this case Astro. Where as this makes her smile or should or use to .

If you put your name in there its more personal.

Type in : Call me John, or George or Paul, or The boss, or Gold member , or Cool sexy guy, or Harry potter, or Harry J cool, or James bond, or Angelina who's very jolly, or Arny big boy, who has a whoppa, or Riddick, old but bold, or Mick St John,who's a cool sucker.

If you want to put in more rules for output, next go to the rule : _startup , In ouput it will have : Hello [name:Friend], my name is Julia. How can I help you?

Add : Hello [name:John], my name is Julia. How can I help you? , What this does also is to get it to say your name instead of "friend"
So when you start the programme , it will say : Hello [name:John], my name is Julia. If your name is Bozo , change it to bozo , or Jenny, or Will , etc.

Add : or Hello [name:James Bond], you can call me Zena, I didn't believe it at first , but yes, you are a genius.
or Hello [name:John], my name is Julia , but my friends call me Zena Warrior Princess, you really are a genius.

or Hi [name:John], my name is Julia , I didn't believe it at first , but I think you are a prodigy, I admire you
or Hello [name:Mr Ugly], my name is Julia , I didn't believe it at first , but yes, you are so sophisticated.

Personally I find if Julia has quite a few responses, its more enjoyable, when she starts and says hello.

Now if you have her calling herself Angelina , then change the vkb files name from Julia to Angelina,and the ckb file as well , it saves confusion.
But if she says Hello my name is Julia , or other times says Hello my name is Nicole, thats okay as well, its up to you, as long as you don't get confused when saving it.
Also if you only have Julia it wont matter, however I have a Nicole vkb, and a Julia vkb, when I use to get tired , it occassionally confused me.

If you are using an agent then use this to make her smile, <agent.play Smile>
ie Have we met some where before [name:Fred]? , my names Nicole <agent.play Smile>

Personally if I had the choice of Julia or Nicole, I would choose Nicole it has more expressions, and has a bigger screen, but you have to buy it.

There are a few to choose from , animations that is, I thought Nicole was the best , but thats my opinion, but it's worth having a look at.

It should tell you on site about it. http://www.guile3d.com.br/, is where you will find it. I bought it for xp which uses an agent.

By now they should have changed it to work with Windows 7, but contact them and find out, before you choose to buy it.

Zaphod Beeblebrox (however it is spelt) is from "The Hitch-hikers' guide to the Galaxy". A trilogy in four parts, [I kid you not] by Douglas Adams.

The movie(s) - two have been made - are based on the iconic SF books, which are partly based on an equally iconic BBC Radio Four show of the same name.

Actually, the 'basis' of "The Hitch-hikers' " is very thorough multi-media muddle!
Though I suppose that by now the books "define" "The Hitch-hikers' " on the grounds that the radio stuff was ephemeral (but I bet several someones have copies somewhere!).
