I see what your saying.
After thinking some more about this, maybe it should work all the time so that if your animation enables speaking it will always wait on the last frame while speaking to continue? Or should we give that extra option of "Finish Speaking on last animation frame?"

thanks for your input, it helps to have other people using this program and commenting on it.

Well you could enable to speak on last frame. But if it does not have to speak, continue to another animation. (return_animation).

Ok, let me just talk this out some more so I understand, if you've said "enable speaking on each animation frame", only then will it allow you to select "pause on last frame to finish speaking" (I would do this because it simplifies the logic a bit, so I don't also have to check on the last frame to see if we can start talking too). Then if you had this "Last Frame Pause" option and we were still speaking, we'd just hold that frame until we were done and move onto the next thing (like the return animation, etc...).

Does this make sense to you?

No, I dont want to be able to talk as the animation runs. I know that CSS does this, but I dont need it. Because my character is only a face with reflection in it. So if I smile, all the face change. So all the face must be render for each viseme. So I must speak only at the end of an animation. So went I say enable speaking on each animation, it is not on each frame, but only at the end. And if this animation as a return animation, he continue to this animation afterward.

So basicly, the character stays in idle mode, make some eye blink. When a rule is fire, and there is a animaiton called, it runs the animation, talk with the appropriate viseme link to this aniamtion, then the return animation. Idle mode again.

I dont know if this answer your question :?:

Probably better to have only a check box that would tell CSS to speak only at the end of the animation.

We've been working on a .CCS Flash Engine so we can use characters developed in the Character Studio online in Flash, while we're doing that I probably won't make any changes to how it works, just to keep it simple, then once we're happy with that we'll look at adding this feature.

Well, lots of time has passed since I've looked at the Character Studio or this post, we've been really busy working on other projects, and we still don't have a flash engine for the CCS files

Anyways, after reading this post again, this is what it sounds like you want (let me know if I'm on the right track).

A checkbox on the animation that effectively pauses on the last frame to speak, and it doesn't depend on wether or not the "enable speaking on each animation frame" checkbox either. So, if this "pause for speak on last frame" checkbox is enabled it will hold the last frame of the animation if there is a speak command on the Speak Queue and for the entire duration of that speak command.

Does that sound like it would work for what you want to do?

The only thing I am trying to do is to use 5 or 10 or ... images that shows the caracter smiling. Then after the last frame, use the images of the visemes (with the smile). Then to finish, 5 image that is not necessarely the 5 first ones, to stop smiling. Like Microsoft agent.

Matt please tell me if you dont understand, I could give you image sample for you to understand. With step by step explenation of what the process should be doing. :)

I think I understand, I've already implemented this feature, I just need to package it up and upload the new version. You can try it out and let me know if it works for what you want to do.
I'll let you know when I update it.

I've uploaded a new version of the Conversive Character Studio with this new version, check it out, I still eventually want to add support for idle states, etc...

Let me know if you try it out.

topdaryl,
I know this is a pretty old topic, but I wanted to see if you ever got a chance to try out this new "Hold last frame while speaking" feature. I know it was not possible to do what you were trying before, just wondering if this helped or not.
