Installer problem

Postby bluespace » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:53 pm

I was installing verbots on another PC, without .net , the installer said 1.1 is needed and provides a link, wait verbot is 2.0 right?, anyway I downloaded 1.1 to see wat happens, then re-run the installer, now it said 2.0 is required and gives a link which again points to 1.1, IMHO, from a new user perspective, all these might stop him to install/test verbots (there are still lot of peoples on XP) btw, an install instruction text/ resource list, text file in the verbots zip package will be helpful for users especially because the downloads are hosted at other site

That's strange, I haven't run into that before, it should just require .net 2.0 when you install Verbot 5. Are you running the .msi file for the setup.exe file?

Hi Matt, checked again, now the first 'download .net 1.1' prob is gone (maybe some files or settings are still there after uninstall, so now it's just the link, verbots says to download 2, when click on link it will take to 1.1 page

What happens when you try the .exe instead of the .msi?

That's strange, does it allow you to continue even after it gives you the warning? You might try just running a windows update to just make sure you are up to date on the .net platform, there maybe patches and what not that it is requiring. If that doesn't help, what happens if you uninstall 1.1? If that doesn't help I'd try uninstalling .net 2.0 also and kind of starting over from scratch.

no it doesn't allow to continue, in the message box it says 2.*** is req, then when i clicked 'yes' to download, it goes to 1.1 page, also a minor error is in the readme file first it says 2.0 then few lines below there's 1.1 anyway both not a big prob,

but please check my second req about placing an info file in the zip package

matt, also another minor request here , if u missed it http://www.verbots.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3014 :)

Ok, I replied to your other post about the website not being updated, I've also changed the Readme file so that it says 2.0 .net instead of 1.1, next time we release a new version that will be fixed.

Thanks for letting me know about that, also the bit in the installer that tells you to download .net and seems to point to the wrong location, that is a standard feature built into .net installers so I'm not sure if we can fix that it goes to the wrong location unfortunately.

I think your suggestion to put an info file in the zip is a good one, I'll look into doing that for the next release.

thanks for the suggestions,
-Matt
