Verbots 5 runs under admin only

Postby pfsmith » Tue Apr 17, 2012 4:11 pm

The package installs to all users, but when run fron a non-admin user the program fails with an error indicating that the Windows installer could not run a program it needed.
It runs properly if logged in as an admin.

Does it normally require admin rights to run?

Win 7 64-bit
All current Windows 7 updates installed.

Error text:
There is a problem with this Windows installer package.
A program required for this install to complete could not
be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Thanks for the problem report, I'll try to take a look at this to figure out what can be done to make it so an administrator level isn't required.

Just to double-check, you install the program from the administrator (or admin privileged account) and then get the error when you run from another user account that doesn't have admin privilege correct?

thanks for the info,

Correct.

It will only install as admin, and then will only run as admin, which is not the standard setup for this system.
I select the install for all users option, whenever it is offered.

Ok, thanks for the additional information, I'll see if I can test this.

It appears that one problem is that some of the verbot files don't get copied to all users "My Documents\Verbots" folder.

It looks like for some reason some of the files are set in the installer to "NOT REINSTALL" I should be able to fix this and release a new installer.

I'll let you know when I have it ready.

I've made a change to the installer and tested it, it seems to work fine now and copy the files over correctly.

You can download the new version directly here, it may take some time for the version that is hosted on downloads.com to pickup this new version.

Let me know if it works for you.

thanks,

Sadly, I am getting the same results.

It will not install on anything but admin, runs fine on admin (although it prompts for permission to run autoupdater.exe),
but fails with the message mentioned in the first post on any other login.

Make sure you fully uninstalled the old version before re-installing the new one. I'll double check with the installer posted to make sure it works for me.

I've double checked this and everything works, I uninstalled from the admin account, re-downloaded the file from my link above, reinstalled for everyone, then logged in as the non-admin user, you can then see it finish the install for the non-admin user, and then the software runs.

Hopefully you can get it working too,

I saw this thread and I thought I would chip in. I've recently disabled UAC on my laptop running Vista Home Premium because the pop-ups are enough to drive you insane, and have found no issues so far with Verbot or any other application apart from maybe having to re-set user settings in some programs. I would like to add though, that I already had Verbot Installed before disabling.
I'll just pop the ol Spidey suit on and jump off a few sky-scrapers. (Or maybe not!! Can't stand heights...)
