Holographic Verbots

Postby JammerJay » Sun Jan 23, 2005 2:25 am

Earlier today, while hooking my PC up to my television (Battlefield Vietnam rocks on the wide screen!), it occured to me that the same technology I use to play PC games on my TV could be used to project a life size projection of a verbot with a little help from a projection tv. Of course that lead me to think about the possibility of using verbot technology to produce holograms.

While I'm no expert at holography, all of the basics are there to produce life size projections, with a little modification of course. The main thing one would need from Conversive would be the ability to use 32 bit imaging in order to make these projections look as life-like as possible. Also SAPI 5 compatibility would really add to the realism as well, especially here in the states where American English voices leave alot (and I do mean alot), to be desired.

We are working on a Developer Edition of Verbots for software developers to embed the Verbot NLP Engine in their applications. Maybe then we (Conversive), or someone else will make a good MS Agent replacement that uses 32 bit graphics (or even full 3D), and SAPI 5. Since Conversive specializes in NLP engines, and not graphics engines, it would probably be better if someone else came up with a good MS Agent replacement (either commercial, or open source).

Verbot has a vast amount of potential (far more than simple web applications) and I'm sure that if you guys (& gals) were to expand Verbot's capabilities in these two departments, those of us on the user end will no doubt push the envelop as to what can be done with the program.

I'm really looking forward to seeing just how far one can take verbot toward realism. In the coming weeks, my goal is to pick up a copy of Poser 5 along with MIMIC software which will not only allow me to create some sweet Agents graphically but also add a large number of expressions in various stages of movement. The key then would be to create AI which will be able to fully utilize the new graphics / expressions.

As much as I'd like to begin tinkering with the possibility of creating holograms, I think it would be much more interesting to work on motion detection, something which would really spice up your holograms if one did indeed decide to pursue that route.

I'm not sure where you are at with this Jammerjay but I have found a few really cheap alternatives for using holograms. A local store here at the mall around a month ago had a simple hologram kit which requires a monitor. Basicly you lay the monitor flat and put this box over it which contains a mirror going diagonal across the box. When looked at head on it looks as if what the monitor is emitting is in 3d, pretty neat but yes your changes would have to be made for color, better render, and no interface but looks doable.

As far as following the user, you should be able to do this now until you can get the rest of the hologram portion worked out. This could be done with creative use of either a headtracker or modified use of a simple web can that is constantly checking the pixlecolor, and then scripting agent move tags to match. Hope this brings up some ideas.
Without Imagination,
-there would be no knowledge or wisdom.

Good one ! Better than mine, of visualizations backgrounds. The alternative ones sound good too. I think it's good trying verbots with all sorts of applications.
I think it would be interesting to work with. Might be useful for instructional if the holo gives it more mobility about the screen.
