Can I help you, asked the Living Index?

Postby gaffa » Sat Feb 25, 2012 4:10 am

G'day all,
been drifting in and out of using Verbot for a few years, in the hope that I could teach it to be a Living Index for the book Iam writing. I have a knowledge base which is starting to fill up with 'scripted' Vietnam related answers.

But I have this book ( 9 word chapters) containing all the info and want Verbot to be able to axcess it.
Q1. What is the limiting factor to size of knowledge base, or a database..

'Some of you may remember that Iam still writing a book on the Royal Australian Navy's Involvement in Vietnam. The book is indexed by the date. What I want to be able to do is is to be able to ask Verbot to read to me what is contained on a page for a certain date.

For Example
Q; What happened on the 19th October 1967.
A: HMAS Perth came under enemy fire, etc.

If you could give this some thought, and advise me
1 How can I file the info from each word chapter of the book in such a way Verbot can axcess it?
2 How can I direct Verbot to read an indercated days info?

I would be most thankful for your thoughts.

Excellent application gaffa.

Technically, there are no size limits to KnowledgeBases, only complications: I've tested KnowledgeBases with over 50,000 rules.

These two downloads will be useful refrences:
In Reference: The KnowledgeBase Exchange http://www.verbots.com/forums/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=273
In Entertainment: The Unbidden Guest http://www.verbots.com/forums/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=264

If you like these ideas, or can think of a better way, please let me know. I'd love to help with the build.

(I was ~223 in the drawing, the draft went to 117 that year. Heard a lot of nasty stories. Glad I missed it.)

Mapstone,
Thank you for your reply,
I am a beginner when it comes to verbot, but I believe it can do the task of finding a date and reading to the next date.
my problem is I dont have an understanding of code, but am very good at following and example.

perhapes we can pm and I will send you a chapter of the book so you can see what Iam wanting to transpose into a knowledge base. Without knowing how do do it.

regards

Sure, whatever fits your style. It looks like you intend to do a date search - there may be an easier way: since this is history the dates are fixed. You could enter dates and topics as Rule Inputs, and link them together using the <send> tag in Child Rules. This would make the dates and events visible in the Script Editor:
